stainless steel hose clamps that are at least 1/2" wide and secure the clamps so that they center midway over the barbed fittings. When it is determined which way the discharge elbow fitting should 'look." apply PVC cement to the smooth inner surface of the elbow and press the elbow firmly over the outlet neck located on top of the treatment unit. Allow at least one hour for the cement to set before screwing in the barbed outlet hose fitting Postpone clamping the discharge hose to the barbed fitting until later. In no case is it necessary to install a vented loop between the treatment unit and the discharge seacock. If the midpoint of the head's bowl is at or below the boat's water line when the boat is upright, or in a sail boat when on a heel, it is advisable to install the vented loop between the head and the treatment unit. As explained before, a loop should also be used when the treatment unit is level with or higher than the head. Again. we emphasize the loop must be Vented outboard of the hull through a 1/4" ID. hose, not into the interior of the head compartment or the cabin.
2. Control Unit The control unit is mounted wherever convenient in the head compartment it can be bulkhead mounted or if the boat's construction permits, flush mounted A 12 foot long 4-conductor cable is supplied Note that the ends of the control cable are uneven on one end. The uneven end should be secured to the connections in the control unit The other end should be secured to the wiring terminals on the treatment unit. Cut off any superfluous wire at the treatment unit end A positive (+) heavy power supply wire (not supplied) is also connected to the E (+) relay terminal in the control unit.
A. Wall Mounting Remove the screws from the sides of the Control Unit box and separate the two sections Secure the back of the box to the wall with the four supplied #12 x %" self tapping screws. Replace the component-containing part of the Control Unit into the wall-mounted back of the box. Secure the two parts of the box with the screws but do not tighten the screws completely. Two holes are drilled in the wall about three inches below the bottom of the box for the wires which will go from the Control Unit to the Treatment Unit and the power supply. The Unit is wired according to the wiring instructions The instruction Placard should be mounted on the wall.
B. Flush Mounting Remove the screws from the sides of the Control Unit box. Put the mounting brackets on the box and secure the brackets to the box sections with the screws. Cut a hole in the wall for the Control Unit using the supplied template to determine the hole size. Trial mount and align the Control Unit in the wall opening Mark and drill holes for the four supplied #12 x 1/2" self tapping screws which will secure the mounting brackets to the wall Secure the Control Unit in place by attaching the brackets to the wall with the four #12 x 1/2" screws. Put the faceplate onto the Control Unit and after it is aligned, mark the location for the screw holes. Drill suitable holes for the mounting screws and trial mount the faceplate The Control Unit is wired according to the wiring instructions.
3. Salt Feed Unit If the boat is almost always on water of normal sea salt salinity, it is not necessary to install the salt feed unit nor the T-check valve assembly (Item 7, Part No 41-1013) If. however, the boat occasionally passes through brackish or fresh water. The necessary salt for adequate treatment can be manually added by pouring about 1 3/4 oz, of table salt directly into the toilet bowl and flushing it along with the sewage. Important: The meter on the control unit indirectly indicates the proper salinity. Too much salt will make the meter read high -- too little and the meter will read low. If excess salt is added the meter will go into the high red sector and may blow the "B" fuse. It is best to regulate the salt so that the meter reads midway in the green sector or slightly lower.
Assemble the Salt Feed Unit Use a sealant, such as Silicone cement, to seal between the tank adapter and the salt feed tank. The be put on the threads of the control Valve. (Item 4, Figure 11) Locate the salt feed tank in an area so that it can be refilled with salt and water as needed. It should be mounted within six (6) feet of the toilet and the top of the salt feed tank should be lower than the top of the toilet bowl. It is secured in place using a frame made of wood or other suitable material. The salt feed tank is equipped with a control Valve. Attach the check Valve and tubing as shown in Figures 3 or 4. Lead the free end of the tubing to the flush water intake fitting on the marine toilet. Cut off any excess tubing. Instructions for connecting the tubing to the toilet are given on pages 9 and 10.
Raritan Crown Head -- Figure 3 illustrates the installation of the Salt Feed Unit to the Crown Head, The LECTRA/SAN Salt Feed Unit is supplied with a T-check valve (part number 41 -1013). Remove and discard the existing plug (or metering plug) as
