GENERATION V CHEVROLET 454
AND GM 502 HEAD GASKET CONFIGURATION
FEL-PRO's new head gaskets, part numbers 17042 (Chevy 454 standard h.p.). 17046 (Chevy 454
high performance) and 17048 (GM 502, 510, 540 and 572), are designed to fit Generation V
engines and Generation IV truck and Bow Tie race blocks without modifications. They can
also be used on the Generation IV passenger and hi-performance blocks if additional
coolant holes are added per drawing below.
NOTE: THESE GASKETS MUST BE USED ON BLOCKS THAT
HAVE ALL THREE LOWER COOLANT HOLES.
Generation V blocks have large core holes located in the front of each bank adjacent to
the dowel tubes To direct the coolant flow toward the exhaust side of the engine,
Generation V gaskets block these holes off.
Generation IV gaskets have holes in these locations, so an excessive amount of coolant
will be transferred across the front, causing other areas of the engine to run too hot.
