| Exhaust Manifold Breakage |
Late Production 1998 (BY) 4.3, 5.0, and 5.7 Litre The method for draining the exhaust manifolds on late production 4.3, 5.0, and 5.7 Litre models has changed from a rubber cap and hose clamp to a threaded pipe plug. Overtightening this pipe plug could damage the exhaust manifold. Two sizes of pipe plugs are being used in the new manifolds. One is used in conjunction with a reducer. Follow the installation information below for the size pipe plug used on your manifold. (1) Coat the threads of the 1/2 in. pipe plug (a) with OMC Pipe Sealant with Teflon and thread it into the manifold. Tighten the 1/2 in. pipe plug to 17 ft. lbs. (23 N·m). (2) Coat the threads of the 1/4 in. pipe plug (b) with OMC Pipe Sealant with Teflon and thread it into the 1/4 in. reducer (C). Tighten the 1/4 in. pipe plug to 10 ft. lbs. (13,5 N·m). (2) Note: The reducer (C) is installed at the factory with a thread locking compound. If the reducer is removed for service, coat the threads with OMC Ultra Lock prior to installation into the manifold. Tighten the reducer to 17 ft. lbs. (23 N·m). |
