What is OMC Tru-Course steering?

********************************************************************

Tru-Course Steering is an exclusive, OMC mechanical, non-reversing steering system. This steering system was designed because the performance of many of today's boats calls for steering which offers the non-reversing feature and is relatively non-sensitive to changing trim characteristics.

First of all, Tru-Course Steering does just what the name implies. It stays on course, holds a point whether in a sharp turn or straight ahead and is more positive at high speeds because steering loads are constant. Tru-Course Steering has a positive feel throughout the speed range and does not have reduced steering effort at low speeds. Tru-Course Steering, because it turns the outdrive a full 90", has slightly more turns lock to lock than most steering systems.

DESCRIPTION

Tru-Course Steering consists of a helm assembly and a pre-assembled steering cable, drum, and bracket assembly. Two cables are anchored to drum assemblies at each end and are routed through a one piece housing. Cable tension adjustment is provided at each cable drum. See Figure below.

Cable, drum, and bracket assemblies are available in sixteen lengths, ranging from 10 to 24 feet, and are serviced as a complete assembly. The cable drums turn on self-lubricated bearings in the cable drum brackets. Two lubrication fittings are provided in the intermediate housing to lubricate the cable drum shaft fore and aft bushings. These are lubricated with OMC Sea-Lube* Anti-Corrosion Lube.
