Cobra water leaks?

> I have a  20ft. boat with a 351 Cobra. While sitting still in the water it leaks water without the engine running, do you have any suggestions?

There are several possibilities but, figuring you don't have a cracked block, the next most likely leaks come from the transom area. You'll need to take a flash light and look closely at the transom plate inside the boat. Water can run down the inside of the transom due to several possible problems. A crack in the u-joint bellows will look like water is coming from the drive shaft. A cracked or damaged shift cable hose will drip water from the lower starboard section of the transom assembly where the shift cable enters the boat from the outside. I've seen several cases of transom gasket failure and in those cases the water was running in from the very bottom of the transom plate. Some early production models had seal problems with the o-rings that sealed the locations where the hydraulic trim lines entered the boat. This is somewhat rare and very hard to see if it is leaking there.

These are the common leaks for the transom area other than I would recommend checking the bedding of your transom drain plug before you get tempted to do anything rash.
